I was born in Johnsonville, SC in 1981. I was salutatorian
 of my graduating class and All-State QB in high school. I went to Gardner-Webb University, moved to LB and was a 4-year starter. At GWU, I was 2-time All-Conference, honorable mention All-American, leading GWU to back to back Big South Championships in 2002,2003. I was given the Presidential Academic Achievement Award at GWU (top male student athlete). I also was awarded the Big South Football Conference top student-athlete award. I made the roster as an undrafted free agent with the NY Giants in 2004, recording a sack against the Ravens in my first defensive playing time of the season. I played for the 49ers in 2005. I played for the Dolphins in 2006. I played for the Bengals in 2007 and 2008. (also 2009 training camp) Overall, I played 5 years in the NFL. I operate "Jim Maxwell's Football Camp" in my hometown of Johnsonville, SC each summer for the area high school athletes.
